MetaMask Exits Ethereum Validators Amid Security Incident Investigation
MetaMask has announced it is taking steps to address a security incident affecting part of its infrastructure. The company said it was investigating the issue and working with external partners and security advisors.
In an effort to protect client assets, MetaMask Staking had begun exiting its Ether (ETH) validators in the Lido protocol on Wednesday. This includes exiting all ETH validators operated by MetaMask Staking within its non-custodial staking operations.
According to Lido Finance developer Will Shannon, the affected validators are expected to exit by October 7, and the exited ETH will return to the protocol gradually as the relevant validators complete the withdrawal and re-entry cycle, which is estimated to take approximately up to 45 days due to the extended entry queue.
MetaMask has not shared details about the security issue but stated it has not identified any immediate threat to MetaMask wallets. The company is addressing the ongoing threat internally.
