MetaMask Exits Ethereum Validators Amidst Undisclosed Security Incident
MetaMask has announced it is taking precautions against an undisclosed security incident affecting its infrastructure. The company manages over $3 billion of staked Ether (ETH) through its validators, making it a significant player in the Ethereum ecosystem.
According to MetaMask's update on Wednesday, the company is addressing the ongoing threat internally and working with external partners and security advisors. However, it did not disclose what the security issue was or provide further details about the incident.
The precautionary measures involve exiting affected validators within its non-custodial staking operations. Lido Finance developer Will Shannon stated that 'ETH exited from MetaMask Staking-operated validators is expected to return to the protocol gradually as the relevant validators complete the exit, withdrawal, and re-entry cycle, which is estimated to take approximately up to 45 days due to the extended entry queue.'
