MetaMask Exits Lido Validators Amid Infrastructure Compromise
MetaMask has taken the precautionary measure of exiting its Ethereum validators on the Lido protocol after an infrastructure compromise was discovered.
The company's staking arm, formerly known as Consensys Staking, stated that it has identified no immediate threat to MetaMask wallets, but that it is taking this step as a precaution to prevent potential slashing penalties.
MetaMask stressed that its staking operations are non-custodial, meaning it does not hold withdrawal keys for client stake.
Lido confirmed the move in a governance forum disclosure, stating that the final validators are expected to be exited by the end of October 7, but not fully withdrawn until the exit, withdrawal, and re-entry cycle is complete, which is estimated to take around 45 days.
StETH holders are not required to take any immediate action, and the ETH is expected to return to the protocol as validators complete their exit and re-entry cycle.
