MetaMask Exits Validators Amid Infrastructure Security Incident
MetaMask has announced that it is exiting Ethereum validators due to a security incident affecting part of its infrastructure. The company stated that it has identified no immediate threat to MetaMask wallets, but as a precaution, it is proactively exiting affected validators within its non-custodial staking operations.
The incident was disclosed on September 30, and MetaMask's internal teams are working with external partners and security advisors to address and remediate the issue. The company emphasized that its staking operations are non-custodial, and it does not manage clients' withdrawal keys. However, this distinction does not eliminate the potential operational impact of the incident.
Lido has provided more detail on the response, describing an investigation into an infrastructure compromise involving MetaMask Staking. The relevant validators have already begun the exit process, with the final exits expected by the end of October 7. This deadline covers validators leaving active service, not completing the withdrawal process.
