MetaMask Exits Validators from Lido Amid Security Incident
MetaMask Staking has begun to exit its Ethereum validators from Lido following a security incident that affected part of MetaMask's infrastructure. The company confirmed it is actively remediating the issue internally and working with external partners.
The security incident did not directly impact user wallets, but as a precautionary measure, MetaMask Staking started exiting its validators from Lido this week. The final exit is expected to be completed by October 7, 2026.
Lido Finance developer Will Shannon explained that the Ethereum withdrawn from MetaMask Staking's validators will not disappear and will likely return to the Lido protocol gradually as each validator completes the exit, withdrawal, and re-entry cycle. This process could take up to 45 days due to an extended entry queue affecting the network.
MetaMask emphasized that its staking operations are non-custodial, meaning it does not manage withdrawal keys for staked ETH on behalf of clients. The company is absorbing the financial cost of foregone staking rewards and possible downtime penalties to protect client assets.
