MetaMask Reassures Users After Security Incident: No Indication of Wallet Compromise
MetaMask has assured users that their wallets and customer funds are safe despite a recent security incident. The company's co-founder, Joseph Lubin, stated on X that there is no indication that MetaMask wallets or customer funds have been affected.
Lubin emphasized the importance of self-custody in Ethereum, saying 'You custody and control your own keys. That is how self-custody works.' He also reassured users that they are fully in control of their own money in MetaMask.
The incident occurred on September 30th, and the team took precautionary measures by taking their validators offline. The exact nature of the security issue remains unclear, but it's speculated to be related to the validator infrastructure.
Lido, an Ethereum staking platform, exited its validators from MetaMask as a precaution. Linea, another ConsenSys-developed Ethereum L2, also announced that it would exit affected validators supporting the Yield Boost vault. The funds and control of the staking vault itself remain unaffected.
