MetaMask Security Incident Sparks Concerns Over User Wallet Safety
MetaMask, a popular cryptocurrency wallet provider, has announced a security incident affecting part of its infrastructure. According to a statement on Twitter, the company has identified no immediate threat to user wallets but is taking precautions as a precautionary measure.
The incident affected MetaMask's non-custodial staking operations, which allow users to stake their Ether (ETH) and earn rewards in the form of stETH tokens. As a result, the company is shutting down some of its Ethereum staking machines it runs for clients, including those operated by Lido.
MetaMask has assured users that they do not need to move their funds or change any settings. However, the company has warned against potential phishing scams and advised users to ignore any unsolicited messages asking for their recovery phrase.
The security incident adds to recent concerns about MetaMask's security after a hidden North Korean developer was found working on its code in July. The company is currently investigating the incident and will provide further updates as necessary.
