MetaMask Staking Exits 17,000 Validators from Lido Protocol Amid Infrastructure Compromise
MetaMask Staking has taken a precautionary measure by exiting approximately 17,000 Ethereum validators from the Lido protocol. This decision was made due to an infrastructure compromise. The validators represent around $1.4 billion in staked ETH, which is a significant portion of Lido's staked base.
The final validators are scheduled to exit by the end of October 7, 2026. The return of ETH will be gradual, taking up to 45 days. This withdrawal is a material outflow from Lido's staked base, and for LDO holders, it may prompt closer scrutiny of the protocol or repositioning away from it.
It's essential to note that the validator exit deadline and the return of ETH are separate stages. Completion of the exits does not mean all ETH has returned. This development may have implications for the security and stability of the Lido protocol.
