MetaMask Takes Validators Offline After Security Incident
MetaMask has taken its validators offline due to a security incident affecting part of its infrastructure. The company emphasized that users are not immediately at risk for their MetaMask wallets, and the issue is being investigated in collaboration with outside service providers and security advisors.
MetaMask's model is non-custodial, meaning that withdrawal keys for the assets they stake are not managed by the company. As a precaution, the company is scaling down its validators of its non-custodial staking service to lower the possible risk of exposure until the investigation concludes.
The Lido protocol, which also uses MetaMask validators, has provided updates on the affected validators. The final affected validators will exit by October 7, 2021, and the funds will then have to pass through the Ethereum process of validators entering and withdrawing. This process is expected to take up to 45 days.
