MetaMask Users' Funds Safe, Reassures Joseph Lubin Amid Security Incident
The MetaMask security incident has been a cause of concern for users, but Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin has reassured them that their wallets and customer funds are safe. In an X post, Lubin stated that there is no indication that MetaMask wallets or customer funds have been affected by the incident. He emphasized that users have full control over their own keys and funds.
The incident was first reported on September 30th, and the MetaMask team took precautionary measures, including taking their validators offline. The team has made three assurances that wallets and customer funds are safe, with the latest one coming from Lubin.
Some users, including Lido and Linea, have exited MetaMask validators as a precaution. Lido exited its validators and will re-enter the system once the issue is resolved. Linea also announced that it would exit its validators supporting the Yield Boost vault, but the funds and control of the staking vault itself are unaffected.
The incident has had a significant impact on the Ethereum staking market, with about 17K validators exiting and around 513K ETH total affected. However, the ETH price remained unaffected and consolidated below $2.8K during the period.
