MetaMask's Ethereum Staking Validators Suspended Amid Security Incident
MetaMask has suspended its Ethereum staking validators due to a security incident that affected its infrastructure. The company disclosed the issue on Wednesday, describing the exits as precautionary measures.
According to research by Kaden, an estimated 18 out of 19 MetaMask validators had their block rewards diverted to an unexpected wallet, with the total amount estimated at approximately 0.36 ETH.
Lido, a staking service provider, warned that the disruption could result in lost staking rewards for affected validators. Lido expects the final validators to stop staking by October 7 and noted that removing funds and re-staking them again could take around 45 days due to Ethereum's entry queue.
Affected validators may miss earnings during this period, but Lido assured stETH holders that they need not take action. The token represents their share of pooled ETH and accumulated rewards.
