MetaMask's Validator Deactivation Leaves Investors Exposed to 45-Day Staking Gap
A recent security incident has led MetaMask to deactivate Ethereum validators, potentially causing investors to miss out on up to 45 days of staking rewards. According to CoinDesk, Lido reported that validators operated by MetaMask had begun exiting its system, with the last ones expected to stop staking by October 7. However, this does not mean all associated ETH will have been withdrawn by then.
Due to Ethereum's staking entry queue, the reactivation process could take up to 45 days. During this time, affected validators will not earn rewards and may face penalties if taken offline before completing their exits.
