Metaplanet Aims to Expand Bitcoin Holdings with Strategic Investments
Metaplanet is setting its sights beyond its current Bitcoin holdings of 44,000 BTC, outlining a strategy to expand its portfolio through strategic investments. The company’s capital allocation policy, detailed on October 5, aims to dedicate 85-90% of its total assets to Bitcoin while allocating 10-15% to income-generating investments. These investments will include mergers and acquisitions, securities, and asset management activities, all designed to create a steady cash flow.
The plan, dubbed the net interest income strategy, focuses on using this cash flow to finance additional Bitcoin purchases. By bolstering its financing capacity and credit quality, Metaplanet hopes to increase both its Bitcoin holdings and the amount of BTC per share. This approach ensures that Bitcoin remains the primary asset while other investments support its growth.
Metaplanet also plans to limit Bitcoin-related borrowings to approximately 10% of its net asset value in BTC, using these loans as temporary financing with a transition to permanent equity financing over time. The company will issue common stock selectively, only when its market capitalization-to-net asset value ratio exceeds 1 and when it benefits existing shareholders.
