Metaplanet Stock Pool Sparks Backlash as Citi Joins Blockchain Payment Push

Metaplanet's executive stock pool has sparked a backlash from shareholders due to concerns over stock dilution. The company's 10th Series executive option pool, which accounts for 20% of fully diluted shares, was designed to automatically expand as new shares are issued to fund the accumulation of Bitcoin (BTC). However, multiple shareholders have objected to this move on social media, demanding that the additional 273 million shares created from the changes be cancelled and requesting more transparency in future decision-making.

David Bailey, CEO of Bitcoin Magazine, defended Metaplanet's approach, stating that giving the team 20% of the cap table over five years 'isn't some crazy number'. However, many shareholders disagree with this assessment. The controversy has raised questions about the balance between rewarding employees and protecting shareholder interests.

In other news, Citi plans to offer Japanese companies near-instant international payments through blockchain-based infrastructure, including outside standard banking hours. This move is part of a broader trend in Southeast Asia, where investment in crypto firms doubled between 2025 and 2026, reaching $680 million in 2026.
