Metaplex Unveils Standard for Permissioned Assets on Solana Blockchain
Metaplex, a Solana tokenization platform, has announced MPL-3643, a new standard for creating permissioned real-world assets and tokenized securities on the Solana blockchain. This standard allows issuers to configure rules such as investor verification, jurisdiction limits, and lockup periods directly on-chain.
The idea is that before an asset can be transferred, the system checks whether the transfer meets the issuer's rules. For example, an issuer could restrict transfers to verified wallets or prevent an asset from moving before a specified date.
Metaplex has integrated MPL-3643 with five Solana platforms: Orca, Raydium, Solflare, Jupiter, and Phantom. The goal is to connect these assets with trading platforms and wallets already used across Solana.
MPL-3643 builds on existing Solana infrastructure, including the Token-2022 and the Solana Attestation Service. Metaplex's founder, Stephen Hess, said that bringing financial markets on-chain requires compliance infrastructure without sacrificing Solana's composability or promise of open markets.
