Metaverse Currencies: MANA, SAND, and AXS Lead the Way
The metaverse is an immersive virtual world that incorporates blockchain technology and cryptocurrency. One of the key currencies powering this digital universe is MANA, which is used in Decentraland, a browser-based platform where users can buy virtual plots of land as non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
Decentraland's native token, MANA, can be used to purchase not just land but also avatars, names, wearables, and other items in the Decentraland marketplace. This is a common theme among metaverse platforms, which rely on their own cryptocurrencies to facilitate transactions within their virtual worlds.
The Sandbox, another popular metaverse platform, uses its native token SAND, an ERC-20 token operating on the Ethereum blockchain. Axie Infinity, a play-to-earn gaming platform, also uses its own cryptocurrency, AXS, which has seen significant gains in 2021, with a whopping 37,000% increase.
The metaverse is built on top of blockchain technology, which enables secure and decentralized transactions. This is why Ethereum, with its widespread adoption and support for smart contracts, is often considered the foundation of the metaverse. As the metaverse continues to grow, it's likely that more companies will invest in this space, potentially leading to new opportunities for investors.
