Mexican Quadruple Murder Sparks Fears Over Crypto-Linked Violence

A quadruple murder in Mexico's Atizapán de Zaragoza has drawn attention to a suspected link between cryptocurrency and violence. Jonathan Meléndez, a keyboardist for the Mexican group Camilo Séptimo, was found dead on September 1 along with his pregnant wife, their 3-year-old daughter, and a 21-year-old housemaid.

The investigation has revealed that two suspects, Diego Sebastián “N” and Gerardo “N”, were detained less than twelve hours after the incident. Mexican Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch stated that the main suspect had a business relationship with Meléndez and confirmed that a sum of money was demanded before the quadruple murder.

According to local media, Jonathan Meléndez owned approximately 1.5 million dollars in bitcoin on a hardware wallet. The suspects were aware of these assets and entered the home to retrieve the device. However, authorities have not yet officially confirmed the link between the wallet and the murder.
