MiCA Regulation Bolsters Trust in Regulated Crypto Firms
Bitpanda CEO Lukas Enzersdorfer-Konrad says that Europe's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) has increased trust among retail investors in regulated crypto firms.
MiCA, which replaced a patchwork of national approaches across Europe, creates 'clear and uniform rules' that improve security and transparency for customers, according to Enzersdorfer-Konrad. This is evident as Bitpanda secured its MiCA crypto-asset service provider authorization from Germany's BaFin in January 2025 and Austria's FMA in April 2025.
The authorizations cover seven services, including crypto and fiat exchange as well as custody, allowing Bitpanda to operate across borders throughout the European Economic Area. By the end of 2025, the platform counted 7.4 million registered customers and reported adjusted revenue of €371 million for the year, with growth at 25% year over year.
The CEO's argument implicitly depends on oversight only building trust if it actually bites, as illustrated by a fine of €70,000 levied against Bitpanda in August 2026 related to issues with white paper submission and marketing.
