Microsoft X Account Hijacked by Crypto Scammers

Crypto scammers hijacked Microsoft's official X account on Thursday, using it to amplify a cryptocurrency account with a Clippy-themed profile picture.

The compromised account, which has over 13 million followers, started following the crypto account and shared one of its messages, posing as Clippy.

The attackers also used the account to push a $Clippy token, claiming its liquidity pool was paired with $MSFT.

Microsoft eventually secured the account and removed the unauthorized posts, but not before one of the attackers posted an apology on the account.

The company has not disclosed how the attackers gained access to the account, but noted that they are investigating the circumstances.
