Microsoft's Official X Account Hacked to Promote Clippy Meme Coin
Microsoft's official X account was compromised for approximately 30 minutes on October 4th. During this time, it followed and reposted accounts promoting a Clippy-themed meme coin, changing its profile picture to Microsoft's former digital assistant character.
The company stated that they had not authorized anyone to use Clippy to promote cryptocurrency tokens and plans to take legal action over the incident.
This incident illustrates how control of prominent social media accounts can be used to give cryptocurrency promotions an appearance of legitimacy, creating confusion for companies and high-profile individuals.
