Microsoft's X Account Hacked to Promote Clippy Crypto
Microsoft's X account was compromised yesterday, leading to a series of unauthorized posts promoting a Clippy-themed cryptocurrency.
The @Microsoft account, which has 13 million followers, reposted a tweet from a Clippy crypto account and changed its profile image to feature Clippy.
The account then posted a message stating it would bring Clippy back if it received 500,000 likes.
However, Microsoft quickly secured the account and removed the unauthorized posts, stating that it does not support or endorse the cryptocurrency token.
The company has also apologized for the incident, stating that it will pursue legal action to have the unauthorized token and related materials removed.
This is not the first time a Microsoft X account has been compromised, as crypto scammers hacked @MicrosoftIndia in 2024 to infect people with cryptocurrency wallet-drainer malware.
The incident has raised concerns among Middle East users, who should treat any Clippy crypto promotion tied to the hack as unauthorized.
