MicroStrategy Doubles Down on Bitcoin with $142.7M Acquisition
MicroStrategy, a company that's transformed into a high-beta Bitcoin holding vehicle, continues to aggressively buy into the leading cryptocurrency. In its latest move, the company acquired 1,665 Bitcoin for $142.7 million at an average price of $85,681, bringing its total holdings to 847,666 BTC worth around $63.95 billion at cost. This significant purchase is not an isolated incident, as the company has been making regular additions to its Bitcoin stash, with its most recent acquisition taking place just earlier in the month.
As a result of its Bitcoin purchases, MicroStrategy's shares have surged, with the stock experiencing back-to-back double-digit and high-single-digit daily gains. The company's recent stock buybacks, preferred payouts, and significant cash reserves have also contributed to its rising stock price. Wall Street analysts are taking notice, with B. Riley raising its price target on MicroStrategy to $195 and maintaining a Buy rating.
The company's balance sheet is a key factor in its ability to continue buying into Bitcoin. With around $52.6 billion in total assets, roughly $2.45 billion in cash and short-term investments, and a current ratio of 5.4, MicroStrategy has a strong financial foundation to support its aggressive Bitcoin buying strategy.
