MicroStrategy Stock Rises as Company Raises $333M Through Share Sale
MicroStrategy (MSTR) stock rose 3% on Monday as the company continued to raise cash through sales of its own shares, according to a recent filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. Between August 10th and August 16th, Strategy sold approximately 3.46 million MSTR common stock shares for around $333.7 million in net proceeds. This is not the first time this month that the company has used its equity markets to strengthen its liquidity position.
The latest share sale comes as Strategy continues to implement its Bitcoin treasury strategy, which involves holding a significant portion of its assets in BTC. The company's Bitcoin holdings remain at 840,447 BTC, valued at approximately $53.4 billion based on the price cited in the filing. This represents roughly 4% of Bitcoin's maximum supply.
The proceeds from the share sale were allocated across three areas: funding dividends on STRC preferred stock ($52.4 million), repurchasing STRC shares under its Digital Credit Securities Repurchase Program ($132.2 million), and adding to the company's USD Reserve ($149.1 million). The reserve has increased by around $1.5 billion over the past three weeks, providing Strategy with a larger liquidity cushion as it manages its financing obligations.
