MicroStrategy Suffers $8.22B Loss as Bitcoin Price Plunges
MicroStrategy (MSTR), a Nasdaq-listed Bitcoin treasury company, reported a staggering loss of $8.22 billion for the second quarter of 2026 due to the sharp decline in the price of Bitcoin. This significant drop in value is attributed to the leading cryptocurrency's current price being down nearly 50% from its all-time high of $126,080 in October 2025.
In contrast to this year's loss, MicroStrategy reported a net income of $10.02 billion for the same period in 2025. Despite this downturn, the company continued to raise capital, purchase more Bitcoin, and pay down debt during the quarter.
MicroStrategy CEO Phong Le stated that the company 'strengthened its balance sheet while navigating a meaningful Bitcoin price decline.' Chairman Michael Saylor added that in the face of muted sentiment and market skepticism, MicroStrategy is evolving its business model and establishing digital credit as a new asset class.
