MicroStrategy's STRC Outshines Bitcoin in One-Year Performance
MicroStrategy's preferred stock outperformed Bitcoin in a one-year comparison. The company's Variable Rate Series A Perpetual Stretch Preferred Stock, STRC, gained 9% over the past year while Bitcoin fell 47%. This performance is based on data from August 14, 2025, to August 14, 2026.
The preferred stock pays an annual rate of 12%, with twice-monthly cash dividends. MicroStrategy adjusts this rate to keep STRC near its $100 par value. However, the security dipped below par in the summer and was sold to fund share buybacks.
While STRC outperformed Bitcoin, other preferred securities issued by MicroStrategy lagged behind. STRD fell 8%, STRF lost 9%, and STRK dropped 27%. These instruments track the common stock more closely than STRC and do not have a claim on MicroStrategy's Bitcoin.
