Midnight Token Soars, But Risks of Overbuying Loom Large
Charles Hoskinson's Midnight token has been on a tear, gaining over 235% from its lowest point this year and reaching a market capitalization of over $812 million. This puts it at the 74th spot in the global coin rankings. The surge in Midnight's price has coincided with the rising demand for privacy tokens, with Zcash, Monero, and Dash all experiencing rallies in recent times.
The optimism surrounding Midnight is evident in the comments from Weiss Crypto, which recently predicted that the coin will be the next big thing in the next 24 months. Charles Hoskinson himself responded to the post, stating that he expects Midnight to become bigger than Zcash, citing the token's private agents and abstractions for all chains as key advantages.
However, despite the enthusiasm, there are signs that Midnight has not yet lived up to expectations. DeFi Llama, a platform that tracks layer-1 and layer-2 chains and other projects, does not list any projects built using Midnight's technology. Meanwhile, the recently-launched Arc and Robinhood Chain have attracted significant attention, with over $562 million and $1.05 billion in assets, respectively.
The Midnight token has become overbought, with its Relative Strength Index (RSI) reaching an extreme overbought level of 86. This could potentially lead to a retreat in the near term, with the token possibly dropping to $0.040.
