Milo Aims to Bridge Bitcoin Wealth and Homebuying Challenges
Miami-based fintech startup Milo is working to make homebuying more accessible for individuals with significant wealth in Bitcoin and other digital assets. Founder and CEO Josip Rupena notes that while many crypto holders have substantial wealth, their financial profiles often don’t fit traditional mortgage criteria. Milo has spent years developing solutions tailored to this niche, including exploring partnerships with larger financial institutions to expand its reach.
Despite steady interest from consumers, converting that interest into actual home purchases remains challenging. Rising interest rates and stable home prices, particularly in high-end markets like Miami, have made affordability a persistent issue. Rupena acknowledges that renting is often cheaper than buying in many areas, but crypto holders may still opt for homeownership if they believe in long-term appreciation and refinancing opportunities.
Milo is also exploring new asset classes for underwriting, such as tokenized equities, though no formal announcements have been made. The company expects to roll out significant product developments focused on affordability and asset expansion within the next two quarters. Additionally, AI tools like ChatGPT are increasingly directing prospective borrowers to Milo, though Rupena cautions that outdated information can be a drawback.
The future of mortgage applications may be transformed by AI, simplifying the process for borrowers with unique financial profiles. For now, Milo remains focused on its core mission: helping crypto holders convert their digital wealth into tangible homes.
