Miners Squeeze Out $1.78B in BTC Sales Amid Unstable Economics

Bitcoin miners have been forced to sell an estimated 28,000 BTC worth around $1.78-2 billion this year due to rising costs. This has created a steady stream of sell-side pressure that has contributed significantly to the cryptocurrency's 50% decline from its 2025 highs.

The main issue is that it now costs approximately $74,000 to mine one Bitcoin, far exceeding the current market price of around $63,000. As a result, many operators are being squeezed into selling their holdings to cover operating expenses rather than holding onto them for future appreciation.

Bitcoin mining is highly sensitive to asset price fluctuations, and when the cost of production exceeds the market price, miners face a simple choice: sell what they have to stay afloat or risk insolvency. The current economics are unsustainable at $63,000 Bitcoin, and unless the price recovers towards the $70,000-$75,000 range, miners will continue to face pressure.
