Tokenized Treasuries Erupt into $50B Market with Ondo Finance Leading the Charge
Tokenized treasuries are changing the game for investors who previously didn't have access to US government bonds. Trillions of dollars in T-bills were locked behind brokerage accounts and minimum investment barriers, but a new category called tokenized treasuries is bringing these assets onto blockchains like Ethereum.
Ondo Finance is at the center of this shift, with its flagship product OUSG giving on-chain investors exposure to short-term T-bills. These tokens track government bond yields and are backed one-to-one by real US government debt. With an annualized yield that tracks the federal funds rate environment closely, OUSG holders have consistently earned more than the national average savings account rate of roughly 0.5-0.6%.
The tokenized treasury sector is growing rapidly, with competitors like Franklin Templeton and WisdomTree launching their own products. However, access rules, redemption mechanics, and smart contract risks differ significantly between providers.
