Mizuho Cuts BitGo Price Target to $11, Sees Regulatory Advantage
Financial services firm Mizuho has adjusted its price target for crypto custodian BitGo Holdings (BTGO) to $11, while maintaining an outperform rating. This reduction still suggests substantial upside potential, with a nearly 96% increase from the current trading price of around $5.61.
The main reason behind this adjustment is not a decrease in confidence in BitGo's growth prospects but rather a reevaluation of its valuation. Mizuho points to the company's regulatory advantage as a key part of its investment case, specifically citing delays surrounding the U.S. CLARITY Act.
According to Mizuho, prolonged uncertainty around the CLARITY Act could actually strengthen BitGo's position against competitors. This is because BitGo already operates as a federally chartered digital asset trust bank, giving it an established regulatory framework while competitors wait for broader legislation to clarify the market.
BitGo has been experiencing significant revenue growth, with Q2 revenue surging 79.6% year over year to approximately $4.33 billion. Although the company remains unprofitable, its net loss narrowed sharply from $60.7 million in the previous quarter to $19 million. Additionally, BitGo's customer base increased by 27% year over year.
Mizuho also highlights BitGo's expanding role in tokenization and stablecoin infrastructure as a significant growth opportunity for the company. Tokenization could significantly expand BitGo's addressable market, allowing it to support tokenized stocks, bonds, and other financial instruments beyond just cryptocurrencies.
