Moderna Token Listed on Solana, Enabling Around-the-Clock Trading
Backpack Securities has listed a tokenized version of Moderna stock on Solana, allowing investors to trade it around the clock. The token, $MRNA, was launched on August 20, one day after Moderna and Merck reported that their mRNA cancer vaccine trial had hit its main goals.
The companies said the combination of therapies cut the risk of recurrence or death by 49 percent compared to Keytruda alone. Backpack Securities quickly published the tokenized listing the next morning, with each token backed one-to-one by Moderna share entitlements held in their regulated U.S. brokerage structure.
The $MRNA token saw $4.5 million in on-chain trading during its first 24 hours, with over 1,200 wallets holding it by the end of launch day. The listing is part of a broader push for tokenized equities on Solana, which has seen a significant increase in volume and adoption.
Backpack Securities' earlier tokenized SpaceX listing helped drive a $1.04 billion tokenized equity week on Solana following SpaceX's Nasdaq debut, and Backpack-issued tokens now account for more than half of weekly tokenized equity volume on the chain.
