MoneyGram Brings Stablecoin Payments to Millions Through Visa Card Launch
MoneyGram has launched its stablecoin-backed Visa card in Colombia, marking a significant step towards integrating cryptocurrency payments into everyday life. The digital card can be accessed and managed through the MoneyGram app, allowing users to convert their stable-dollar balances into real-world spending power.
The card is powered by Rain's payment system and Crossmint's wallet tech, with the Stellar network providing the blockchain layer connecting the digital-dollar experience to the overall MoneyGram ecosystem. This marks a major development in MoneyGram's efforts to move towards a new approach to transferring money based on the blockchain.
The MoneyGram Card will enable users to make online purchases, conversion in-store, and use Apple Pay or Google Wallet, with physical cards set to be released in the second half of 2026. The launch is part of MoneyGram's growing presence in Latin America as a stablecoin provider, with over 60 million active customers across 200 countries and territories.
MoneyGram anticipates expanding its stablecoin payment experience beyond wallets, enabling in-person purchases and cash-out from ATMs. This development highlights the increasing importance of blockchain technology in modernizing financial services and improving access to conventional money.
