MoonPay Acquires North Capital for $60M+ in Tokenization Push
Crypto payments company MoonPay is expanding into tokenized assets and regulated securities infrastructure by acquiring North Capital, a Utah-based private-markets investment platform. The all-stock deal worth more than $60 million will make North Capital a wholly owned subsidiary of MoonPay pending U.S. regulatory approval.
North Capital operates SEC-registered broker-dealers, an alternative trading system, a transfer agent, and an investment adviser, supporting roughly $9 billion in primary and secondary transaction volume. The acquisition aims to build a regulatory foundation for mass adoption of tokenized real-world assets, according to MoonPay CEO Ivan Soto-Wright.
MoonPay is valued at $3.4 billion, and the deal extends its expansion beyond crypto payments into tokenized securities, DeFi, and stablecoin liquidity. The company has made several acquisitions this year, including DFlow, Sodot, and Entendre, adding capabilities across institutional custody, onchain trading, and financial operations.
