MoonPay to Acquire North Capital in $60M All-Stock Deal
MoonPay has agreed to acquire North Capital Investment Technology in an all-stock deal valued at over $60 million. The acquisition is expected to close after regulatory approvals are obtained, making North Capital a wholly owned subsidiary of MoonPay.
The move aims to support MoonPay's tokenization efforts and expand its business beyond core crypto payments into tokenized assets, decentralized finance, and stablecoin liquidity. According to Ivan Soto-Wright, CEO and founder of MoonPay, the acquisition is a step towards building 'the regulatory foundation to support mass adoption of tokenized real-world assets.'
North Capital provides technology infrastructure for tokenizing securities for private securities issuers and fund managers, supporting capital raising, asset management, clearing, custody, and secondary trading. The firm has registrations with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and operates an alternative trading system (ATS). Its platform supports more than $8.7 billion in primary and secondary transaction volume.
The acquisition will add North Capital's securities-tokenization infrastructure and regulatory registrations to MoonPay's platform, allowing it to extend into tokenized assets and regulated securities infrastructure.
