Morgan Stanley, a major financial institution, has established a Digital Asset Lab to explore blockchain-based financial tools. The lab will investigate various applications of decentralized finance (DeFi), including DeFi vaults, stablecoins, and tokenized deposits.

The bank is already familiar with cryptocurrency trading through its Bitcoin Trust and E*TRADE spot trading services. However, the new lab shifts focus to infrastructure and underlying technologies.

According to sources, Morgan Stanley will study tokenized money-market funds, central bank digital currencies, and other forms of digital money and investment assets. The team will examine how blockchain tools can support payments, investment management, and asset transfers.
