Morgan Stanley Enters Ether, Solana Market with Low-Fee ETPs
Morgan Stanley has expanded its presence in the cryptocurrency market by launching two new exchange-traded products (ETPs) backed by Ether and Solana. The bank's investment management arm introduced the Morgan Stanley Ethereum Trust (NYSE Arca: MSSE) and the Morgan Stanley Solana Trust (NYSE Arca: MSOL), both of which will track the prices of their respective underlying assets.
The new ETPs come with a competitive fee structure, with a management fee ratio set at 0.14% for both investment vehicles. This is significantly lower than what many other crypto index funds charge. One notable feature of these ETPs is that Morgan Stanley has committed to redistributing all staking rewards to shareholders without charging any commission.
This initiative marks the latest step in Morgan Stanley's strategic expansion into the cryptocurrency market. In April, the bank launched its first spot Bitcoin ETF, the Morgan Stanley Bitcoin Trust (listed under the ticker MSBT on NYSE Arca). The success of this product has been impressive, with over $381 million in assets under management as of July 16.
The combination of brokerage offering and ETP issuance on the NYSE Arca reflects a carefully built two-pronged infrastructure by Morgan Stanley. This includes a partnership with Zero Hash to provide liquidity and custody for individual investors holding tokens directly, while also offering wealth managers and institutional investors simplified exposure without the burden of direct private key custody.
