Morgan Stanley Expands Digital Assets Strategy with New Innovation Lab
Morgan Stanley has established a Digital Asset Lab to test stablecoins, tokenized financial products, and decentralized finance tools. The lab is part of the bank's broader network of innovation facilities, which covers approximately 20,000 square feet across New York, Glasgow, and Bangalore.
The lab allows teams to trial emerging technologies while keeping the firm's core infrastructure shielded from risk. Speaking to Bloomberg, Megan Brewer, who leads market innovation and labs at Morgan Stanley, explained that the facilities enable teams to explore digital assets without putting client money or core banking operations at risk.
The lab's scope covers six distinct categories of blockchain-based finance, including payment tools and automated investment structures. The bank is studying tokenized deposits, central bank digital currencies, tokenized money-market funds, and DeFi vaults alongside stablecoins and broader tokenization of traditional financial assets.
