Morgan Stanley Tackles Stablecoins and DeFi in New Blockchain Lab

Share

Morgan Stanley has established a Digital Asset Lab to test various blockchain tools and digital assets. The lab will focus on stablecoin payments, tokenized deposits, central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), tokenized money-market funds, and decentralized finance (DeFi) vaults.

The lab is designed to provide a controlled environment for the bank to study these technologies without exposing its core systems to potential risks. Amy Oldenburg, Morgan Stanley's head of digital assets, described the lab as 'a safe and ring-fenced environment' that meets regulatory requirements.

Morgan Stanley will use the Digital Asset Lab to examine how stablecoin payments can be integrated into financial markets. The bank is also looking at DeFi vaults, which can automatically move deposited digital assets across different DeFi markets following pre-set strategies.
