Morgan Stanley Tests Stablecoin Payments in New Digital Asset Lab

Share

Morgan Stanley has set up a Digital Asset Lab to test blockchain and digital asset technologies. The lab is designed to examine how stablecoin payments, tokenized deposits, central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), and decentralized finance (DeFi) vaults could work within existing financial systems.

The lab allows Morgan Stanley to experiment with these technologies in a controlled environment, separate from its core systems. This setup is meant to give the bank room to study new tools under controlled conditions while meeting regulatory requirements.

Amy Oldenburg, head of digital assets at Morgan Stanley, described the lab as 'a safe and ring-fenced environment.' The focus on DeFi vaults adds another layer to the research, with Morgan Stanley wanting to understand both their possible uses and risks.
