Morgan Stanley Tests Stablecoins and DeFi Vault Technology in New Lab
Morgan Stanley has established a new Digital Asset Lab to test and explore stablecoins, tokenized deposits, and decentralized finance (DeFi) vaults in a secure and compliant environment. The lab is part of Morgan Stanley's existing network of innovation labs and will examine various blockchain applications without putting the bank's core systems at risk.
The lab's goal is to understand how these new technologies work before deciding whether they belong in client offerings. Amy Oldenburg, head of Morgan Stanley's digital-asset team, sees vaults as a future technology but believes it's better to test them first rather than deploying them too soon and risking the bank's systems.
The Digital Asset Lab will run alongside the bank's digital-asset team, allowing for easier collaboration and testing. This approach is practical, as it enables Morgan Stanley to examine how these software works before connecting it to client money.
