Morning Joe Calls Trump Meme Coin Contest 'Pure Corruption' Over VIP Access
The hosts of MSNBC's 'Morning Joe' called out President Trump's meme coin dinner contest as pure 'corruption.'
The contest, announced by the company behind the $TRUMP coin, offers top holders a dinner at the Trump National Golf Club and a VIP reception with the president. The top 29 investors will also receive a VIP reception with the president. The hosts noted that Trump has made $635 million from the licensing of his name, and that this is just another example of his family's wealth and influence.
'This is corruption, and it's all over the place,' said host Joe Scarborough. 'When a family's already raked in $2 billion, $3 billion, it's hard to say this is the worst example, a most flagrant example of corruption, but it's certainly up there.'
The hosts also criticized the timing of the contest, noting that it comes at a time when many people are struggling to afford basic necessities. 'In a time, again, where people can't afford to buy gas or groceries or pay their rent or pay for their health care,' co-host Willie Geist said.
