Moscow Exchange Introduces Perpetual XRP Futures Amid Growing Interest in Crypto Derivatives
The Moscow Exchange (MOEX) has expanded its cryptocurrency derivatives offerings by launching perpetual futures contracts for XRP, in addition to Bitcoin, Ether, Solana, and Tron. These contracts are priced in US dollars but settled in Russian rubles and will be available to qualified investors under Russian regulatory frameworks.
The new perpetual futures contracts were launched on September 22 with tickers XRPUSDF, BTCUSDF, ETHUSDF, SOLUSDF, and TRXUSDF. Unlike traditional dated futures, these contracts roll over daily with automatic position continuation and funding adjustments to keep contract prices tied to their underlying indices.
MOEX built the reference benchmarks in-house, including the MOEXXRP index, which was first calculated and published earlier this year. The margin requirements for XRP futures are significantly higher than those for Bitcoin, demanding a 43% initial margin compared to 22% for Bitcoin. This suggests that MOEX views XRP as a riskier asset.
The adoption of crypto derivatives on the Moscow Exchange has been steadily increasing since its introduction in summer 2025. More than 72,000 qualified investors have engaged with these products, and total turnover has surpassed 600 billion rubles, or approximately $7B at current exchange rates.
