MSTR Pulls Back as Bitcoin Rally Fades
Strategy Inc shares (NASDAQ: MSTR) saw a significant pullback on Friday, closing at $127.31 after a week that included a 36.83% gain over the past two weeks. The decline comes as investors take profits following a sharp rally driven by Bitcoin's reclaim of the $80,000 level.
The stock had surged nearly 50% from its late-July lows in just four weeks, pushing momentum indicators into historically precedented territory for at least a short-term pause. This backdrop may explain why sellers stepped in even as Bitcoin held above $80,000 and the broader crypto complex remained positive.
Wednesday's session saw a 'beta blow-off' with Bitcoin breaking above $80,000 on fresh tailwinds from a White House meeting with crypto industry executives and continued inflows into spot Bitcoin ETFs. MSTR responded by surging nearly 12%, but this type of move compresses future return potential in the short run.
The dilution debate remains a live overhang for MSTR, as the company has sold roughly 10 million new common shares for approximately $987 million in combined proceeds to build its dollar reserve and retire some of its STRC preferred stock. The capital structure is formidable, with roughly $6.7 billion in convertible notes and approximately $15.5 billion in preferred notional sitting ahead of common shareholders in any liquidation or stress scenario.
