MultiversX to Pause Transactions for 24 Minutes in Bid for 10x Speed Boost
MultiversX, a major layer-1 chain, is preparing to upgrade its blockchain with the Supernova update. Scheduled for September 10 during epoch 2233, this upgrade aims to increase processing speed by 10 times, reducing block times from six seconds to just 600 milliseconds.
The Supernova upgrade will also restructure MultiversX's consensus pipeline, allowing validators to vote on a block while execution proceeds in parallel. This change is expected to push intra-shard finality below 250 milliseconds and cut cross-shard settlement from about 18 seconds to roughly 2.4 seconds.
MultiversX has given node operators nine days to prepare for the upgrade, which will require them to migrate onto software capable of processing the new rules. The network will temporarily pause new transactions for approximately 24 minutes while clearing existing ones, after which it is expected to operate at significantly faster speeds.
