Musk Sounds Alarm on AI Extinction Risk, Sees Bitcoin as Potential Solution
Elon Musk has warned that artificial intelligence (AI) will surpass human intelligence by 2036, leaving humans at risk of extinction. In an interview with The Economist, Musk stated that AI is on track to become 'smarter than any human individually' next year and to exceed 'all humans combined' within roughly five years.
Musk's prediction comes as a stark warning about the rapid development of AI. He emphasized that slowing down AI progress is no longer possible due to its 'incredible momentum'.
The Tesla CEO has been an outspoken advocate for caution in AI development, supporting regulation and warning about the dangers of uncontrolled AI growth.
Musk's comments also highlighted his investment in Bitcoin (BTC), which he sees as a potential solution to the problem of AI-controlled finances. He believes that assets like Bitcoin, with its hard-coded supply and decentralized network, are less vulnerable to manipulation by AI systems.
