Musk Teases SpaceXSI Rebrand Amid Trump's Super Intelligence Push
SpaceX's shares (SPCX) rose over 1% overnight after CEO Elon Musk hinted at a possible name change for the company's AI unit to SpaceXSI, following US President Donald Trump's executive order to replace 'AI' with 'super intelligence'. Musk had previously used the term 'super intelligence' at the White House gathering, correcting himself to 'AI' before reverting back to 'super intelligence'.
The proposed rebrand would be the AI business's third identity change since February, when SpaceX acquired xAI. The division initially used the name SpaceXAI, which was adopted in July. However, Musk did not provide a timeline for the name change or details on how it would affect products like Grok.
Morgan Stanley analysts called SPCX shares 'unusually cheap' ahead of Starship Flight 15, maintaining a $300 target that implies about 89% upside from current levels. The analysts expect developments over the next few months to help investors appreciate the role of SPCX in addressing critical bottlenecks in power and chip making.
SPCX stock has gained 7% this week, with its best week in nearly two months. The company completed three launches in under 13 hours on Thursday, including a mission carrying Google's first Project Suncatcher orbital AI chip test.
