Nasdaq Invests $100 Million in Kraken Parent to Drive Tokenized Equities
Nasdaq's investment in Payward, the parent company of cryptocurrency exchange Kraken, is a significant step towards the convergence of traditional capital markets and blockchain infrastructure. The $100 million investment will deepen the partnership between Nasdaq and Payward, focusing on tokenized equities, always-on market infrastructure, and the development of Nasdaq Equity Tokens.
The collaboration aims to support infrastructure for trading tokenized shares while connecting established market systems with technology developed inside the digital-asset sector. This marks a broader shift in the type of stories defining the crypto industry, as traditional financial-market operators are examining how blockchain infrastructure can be integrated into regulated securities markets, settlement systems, and institutional trading.
Kraken's existing xStocks infrastructure provides an indication of the demand developing around tokenized equities. The platform has surpassed $25 billion in total transaction volume within its first year, including more than $4 billion settled on-chain, while attracting over 85,000 holders across supported networks.
