Nasdaq Rolls Out 23-Hour Stock Trading Schedule
Nasdaq has announced its plans to introduce a 23-hour stock trading schedule, similar to those found in cryptocurrency markets. This move is aimed at increasing market access and aligning with investor expectations for continuous trading.
The new Night Session will run from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. Eastern Time, with existing pre-market, regular, and post-market sessions remaining unchanged. The session will pause between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. for processing and trade-date transition.
Nasdaq's Global Trading Hours material describes the Night Session as part of a broader effort to provide greater access while preserving current U.S. market protections. This move is seen as a response to investor demands for continuous markets, similar to those found in cryptocurrency trading.
The Securities and Exchange Commission approved Nasdaq's 23-hour trading rule on April 10, 2026, removing regulatory barriers before the exchange announced its December operating date.
