Nash County Residents Warned About Bitcoin and Gift Card Scams

The Nash County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about an increase in scams involving Bitcoin and gift cards. Scammers are posing as deputies or representatives of the office, claiming that residents have outstanding warrants, missed court dates, or owe money.

They then pressure victims to make immediate payments using Bitcoin, gift cards, or other payment methods. The Sheriff's Office emphasizes that legitimate law enforcement officers will not call and demand money or require payment through gift cards or cryptocurrency.

Residents who receive such calls are advised to hang up immediately and not send any money, gift cards, or cryptocurrency. They should also not click on links or provide personal or financial information while on the phone.

The Sheriff's Office recommends blocking the number and reporting the call to their agency at 252-459-4121. Sheriff Keith Stone has shared a post on Facebook urging residents to stay alert and help protect their community.
