$NEAR Intents Hit by $3.8M Exploit as Crypto Hacks Continue

Share

The blockchain protocol $NEAR Intents suffered a security exploit on Thursday that resulted in about $3.8 million in losses, prompting the platform to pause services and disable deposits and withdrawals on several blockchains.

The incident was caused by a bug in the Omni deposit and withdrawal system's interaction with the $NEAR Intents smart contract. The platform has since patched the contract-side vulnerability and will reimburse affected funds in full.

$NEAR Intents is designed to simplify cross-chain trading, allowing users to specify the swap they want without manually choosing a bridge or exchange.

The incident adds to a rough year for crypto security, with several major hacks occurring in recent months, including one on Bitget that resulted in over $350 million in stolen assets.
